Assemblyman Joseph Danielsen
Assemblyman Joseph Danielsen, of Franklin Township, was first sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly on October 16, 2014.

Assemblyman Danielsen received his Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Rutgers University and his Associate in Applied Science in Marketing Art and Design from Middlesex County College. He served in the United States Army Reserve 78th Div. TNG (Jersey Lightning) for 10 years.

Assemblyman Danielsen is the founder and owner of Network Blade, LLC., a computer consulting service and serves as the Executive Director at the Franklin Township Sewage Authority. He is currently a volunteer fire fighter and life member - since 1992. In addition, Assemblyman Danielsen has served in many volunteer positions within the Township of Franklin which includes the Planning Board (14 years), Somerset County Action Program and Municipal Democratic Chairman (8 years). He is also a top fundraiser in New Jersey for Childhood Cancer Research via St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

Assemblyman Danielsen is the youngest of nine children and was raised by a single parent. He is married to Christine and has three children and still lives on the street where he was born. Assemblyman Danielsen represents the 17th Legislative District, which includes the Middlesex County municipalities of New Brunswick, North Brunswick and Piscataway, and the Somerset County municipality of Franklin Township and South Bound Brook. Assemblyman Danielsen currently serves as Chair of the Assembly Public Safety & Preparedness Committee. He also serves as a member of the Assembly Labor Committee and Assembly Science, Innovation & Technology Committees.

Assemblyman Danielsen has made it his mission to give back to the communities he serves. He has focused on increasing school aid, improving the lives of veterans and senior citizens, and reducing property taxes through initiatives such as the ANCHOR Program and Stay NJ. His legislative accomplishments include major work on medical and adult-use cannabis and advancing bills promoting clean energy and social justice. His commitment to his district is also reflected in his community-driven initiatives, including his annual backpack drive, food bank programs, clothing drives, job fairs, and pizza parties for veterans, seniors, and local residents.

On April 1 2025, the Governor signed into law the most comprehensive Retail Theft Law in the nation. This legislative accomplishment was a team effort by both Assemblyman Danielsen and the hard work of the New Jersey Food Council.

Assemblyman Danielsen also served as Chairman of the Assembly Oversight, Reform, and Federal Relations Committee. Assemblyman Danielsen has been a prime author of the current cannabis law which includes medical and adult use. His legislative successes include modernizing New Jersey’s liquor licensing statutes, Open Public Records Act and the current Concealed Carry Gun Safety law.

Assemblyman Danielsen, during his legislative career, has focused his attention on initiatives which improve the quality of life for all his constituents. And he maintains a special interest on issues for affordability for senior citizens, educators, veterans, property tax reform and auto/ health insurance.
